Roads through Hong Kong are generally of a very good standard, though the quality can be lower in sparsely-populated regions. Bus services run regularly and cover most of the islands, and travel is both affordable and reliable – if not a bit crowded at times. Minibus, taxi and some rickshaw services are available throughout Hong Kong and these offer more reliable services than buses, though at a higher price. Tram services are also available on Hong Kong Island. Rail services cover a few routes through Hong Kong, mainly through harbour districts and the like – whist faster than other services available; these can prove quite costly comparatively speaking. Discount cards are available. A number of different boat and hydrofoil services cover the region, and offer some of the most scenic and affordable routes around the islands. Regular ferry services cover major areas and smaller water taxis are available 24 hours a day. Numerous tours are operated through waterways, and these can also be used for transportation means.
